2026 Graduation Party Tips for Success

The end of the school year 2025-2026 is near. Whether you’re celebrating one graduate or a whole class, the earlier you start planning the graduation party, the better chance it will reflect their achievement and create lasting memories. Here are some catering tips to help you get started in the planning process.

2026 Graduation Party Checklist:

  • Start Early
  • Choose a Theme
  • Set a Budget
  • Select a Location
  • Review Catering Options
  • Choose Food to Match the Theme
  • Consider Dietary Preferences and Restrictions
  • Verify Food Quantities and Storage

Start Early!

The competition for your time, your guests’ time and your preferred caterer (CKC Good Food!) is intense. Don’t procrastinate in choosing a date and location and getting the word out to your guest list.

Choose a Theme

Consider a theme that reflects the graduate’s personality or post-graduation plans. Whether it’s a college, sports, travel or something personal, a theme helps simplify decisions around decorations, activities and food.

Set a Budget

Determine a budget for all the anticipated expenses: location, catering, decorations and entertainment and any rentals.

Select a Location

Choose a location that will accommodate your anticipated number of guests. This could be your home, a local park or a rented venue. Make sure the location has the space and facilities you need, such as a kitchen, water, electricity and seating.

Review Catering Options

Research and gather quotes from different caterers and/or food trucks based on your theme and budget. Look for caterers that offer a variety of menu options to ensure there’s something for everyone. Include appetizers, entrées, side dishes and desserts in your selection.

Look for reviews and testimonials for peace of mind. CKC Good Food Event Catering has 43 (and counting!) 5-star reviews on Google and has been voted the “Best Caterer” in Eagan by the readers of Sun This Week three years in a row!

Flexibility matters! Choose a caterer that is flexible and willing to accommodate your specific requests. Discuss any customization options, such as incorporating favorite dishes or adjusting menu items to suit your preferences.

Choose Food to Match the Theme

After choosing a caterer, ask for menu recommendations matching the party’s theme.

  • For casual outdoor parties, BBQ options like smoked ribs, pulled pork or chicken, or a burger and Chicago dog bar work well.
  • For travel-inspired themes, explore global flavors like Mexican-Korean fusion or Italian-inspired pastas.
  • For something extra meaningful, browse our other menus to incorporate the graduate’s favorite foods or comfort meals.

Upon request, we can even provide Afghani/Middle Eastern food once served at CEO Nancy Close’s restaurant, Caravan Serai.

Consider Dietary Preferences and Restrictions

You are sure to have guests with dietary restrictions, sensitivities or preferences. Ask your caterer if your menu choices can be modified for gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan guests or if you need to choose an additional menu offering. To honor those guests, consider placing cards with the known allergens next to each item on your food table.

Verify Food Quantities and Storage

Discuss portion sizes with your caterer to ensure there’s enough food for all your guests. Caterers with experience in handling events like yours can provide guidance on appropriate quantities. Also confirm how food will be delivered and kept at safe temperatures—especially for hot items. Ask about chafing dishes or other serving equipment if needed. Be prepared for leftovers if fewer guests attend than you anticipated.

By planning ahead, you’ll set yourself up for a smoother, more enjoyable graduation party experience that truly honors the graduate.
